Who would have thought that the winning edge to that coveted First Place may come from relaxation and massage? How many of us have wrongly believed in the work hard ethic, the dig deep concept and the tough it out attitude?
Sadly many of us believe these messages as important mainstays of life that will support us and get us through whatever hits us! What if…? What if the opposite is true? What if being kind and gentle to ourselves (in mind, body and spirit) is a better winning strategy? What if treating our body not as a machine would enable us to perform better?
A study of racehorses has concluded that relaxing music and body massages are 2 massive contributors to a) reduction of stress and anxiety in a horse and b) enhanced performance. If it’s good for the horse surely it’s good for the human too?
Have a think back to the last time you unwound, switched off, went on hols. I bet you felt more alive, creative and sharp in wit or mental ability than when not on holiday. The positive effects of riding our bodies of Cortisol (the stress hormone) is massive.
It seems our horses will benefit too!
The really good news is that playing music isn’t expensive and can be scheduled in at a time to suit you, and is not weather dependent. It makes you wonder how pleasant yard atmospheres could be with a touch of Brahms or Peruvian pipes peeling out across the muck heap!
